LTC Walters enlisted in the Army Reserves in July of 1997 serving as a 44B Metal Worker within the 461st Engineering Company, Casper, Wyoming. LTC Walters graduated Magna Cum Laude from Norwich University and commissioned as an Aviation officer in April 2002. His first duty assignment was with the 3rd Squadron, 6th US Air Cavalry Regiment in Camp Humphreys, South Korea where he served as an Attack Aviation Platoon Leader, Squadron S4, and as the assistant Battalion S3 for 4th Battalion 2nd Aviation Brigade.
After completing the Aviation Captain’s Career Course and Aviation Maintenance Managers course in 2008, LTC Walters served as Deputy Chief of the newly formed Key Leader Engagement Cell, 101st Infantry Division Headquarters, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In this position, LTC Walters deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. LTC Walters redeployed in 2009 to Fort Campbell and took command of Delta Company 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment and deployed to Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, again in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Following company command, LTC Walters attended the Army Acquisition Basic Course as well as the Army Acquisition Intermediate Manager’s Course at Redstone Arsenal. Upon graduation, LTC Walters was assigned to Program Executive Office Aviation as the Assistant Project Manager in charge of the Aviation Mission Planning System and the Consolidated Aviation Flight Records System from 2012-2015. Following completion of Command and General Staff College, LTC Walters received his MBA from the University of Alabama at Huntsville in 2016 and was assigned as an Aviation Test Officer at the Operation Test Command, Fort Hood, Texas. LTC Walters is Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Level III certified in Program Management and level I in Testing.
LTC Walters currently serves as the Threat Detection Branch Chief within the Counter Improvised Threat Technologies Department in Arlington, Virginia. LTC Walters is responsible for the rapid prototyping of ground and air detection technologies designed to counter improvised explosive devices, booby trap structures, and counter threat networks.
LTC Walters’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the National Defense Service Metal, the Afghan Campaign Metal with Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Metal, the Korean Defense Service Metal, the NATO Metal, the Combat Action Badge, the Senior Army Aviation Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
LTC Walters is married to Carrie Walters and they share three children together; Hayleigh 19, William 14, and Logan 13.
